Choosing the Proper Rid O' Rust Formula
When you have selected your system type and proper Formula you can use the Rid o'Rust Formula Online Calculator!
First, test the well water.
You can have the water tested locally by your Rid O'Rust contractor or an irrigation supply house. If these resources aren't available, contact us. We will send you a "Do-it-yourself" test kit or a water sample mailer tube with a prepaid mail label. The "Do-it-yourself kit" will produce the fastest results for you. However, if you choose to send us a sample, we will test the water in our laboratory at no charge and mail you the results.
What Do We Test For?
- Iron is measured in ppm (parts per million). One ppm will product a noticeable stain in a month.
- Hardness is measured in gpg (grains per gallon). We consider well water measuring 15 gpg to be relatively "hard."
- Relative acidity/alkalinity is measured in pH. Neutral pH is 7.0. A reading lower than 7.0 is to the acidic side; a reading higher than 7.0 is to the alkaline (base) side.
Next, select the proper Formula.
- If the pH reads 6.0 or less, you use Formula 1000.
- If the hardness is 15 gpg or more you use Formula 2000.
- In all other cases, you use Formula 500, a quart concentrate.
CAUTION: The above products are suitable for irrigation applications only; they are not approved for use with potable (drinking) water. When in doubt about the application, contact your nearest Rid O'Rust dealer or call American Hydro direct.
